About the Company

Universal Resources NZ Limited operates sushi shops in Auckland Central, offering authentic Japanese sushi, donburi, and rice bowl dishes to our customers. We are currently seeking a Cook to join our team.

Key Responsibilities

·       Inspect, select, and prepare ingredients required for cooking.

·       Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese-style dishes, including sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and donburi.

·       Wash, slice, and prepare fish, seafood, vegetables, and other ingredients according to food safety standards.

·       Cook rice to the correct texture for sushi and season it appropriately.

·       Ensure all food preparation areas are clean, well-organised, and compliant with hygiene and safety standards.

·       Assist with menu preparation and ensure consistency in food quality and presentation.

·       Monitor ingredient stock levels and inform the manager when supplies need replenishing.

·       Maintain kitchen equipment and tools, ensuring they are cleaned and stored properly.

·       Follow food safety guidelines, including temperature control and proper storage of raw ingredients.

·       Support other kitchen staff and work as part of a team to ensure efficient service.

·       Package takeaway sushi items and prepare orders for customers when needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following:

·       A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification; or

·       At least two years of relevant work experience.

Other Skills Required

·       Experience in sushi preparation or general kitchen work

·       Knowledge of safe handling of seafood and raw ingredients.

·       Good knife skills and attention to detail.

·       Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

·       Understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.

·       Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
