Position Summary

We are looking for two skilled, safety-conscious Bricklayers who can turn plans into durable, visually appealing brick, block, and stone structures. The ideal candidate interprets blueprints, prepares mortars, lays masonry units with precision, and keeps every course perfectly aligned—while collaborating seamlessly with other trades to deliver projects on time and to spec.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret landscape plans to determine the layout and requirements of brickwork.
  • Prepare and mix mortar or other bonding materials to the required consistency.
  • Lay bricks, pavers, and other masonry units in straight and uniform rows with proper alignment, spacing, and structural integrity.
  • Cut, shape and polish units using hammers, power tools, or hand tools to fit around obstacles such as pipes, openings, or corners.
  • Repair and replace lifted, cracked or stained pavers or masonry structures as required.
  • Check alignment with string-line, straight-edge and spirit level.
  • Load, unload and stage palletised pavers, bagged cement and sand in confined rear- garden access.
  • Operate and maintain masonry tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Maintain tidy site: sweep spoil, dispose silica-contaminated slurry in sealed bags, erect temporary edge protection and signage.
  • Collaborate with other landscape trades, electricians and site supervisors to meet programme milestones.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a relevant level 4 or above qualification is required.
  • Knowledge of bricklaying techniques, tools, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction plans.
  • Good physical stamina and strength to handle heavy materials and work outdoors.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of New Zealand building codes and safety regulations is an advantage.
