We are seeking an experienced Sales & Business Development Manager to lead the sales function, strengthen customer relationships, and expand market presence for our client.

This is a pivotal role for a dynamic, strategic thinker who can balance commercial insight with strong leadership capability.

In this position, you will be responsible for retaining and developing existing customer accounts, identifying and securing new business opportunities, and driving sales of both current and emerging products. You’ll stay ahead of industry trends, champion new technologies, and deliver successful sales and marketing initiatives that support our strategic direction.

You will also lead and mentor a high-performing sales team, ensuring they are equipped, motivated, and aligned with our organisational goals.

The Role

  • Drive customer retention while identifying and converting new business opportunities.
  • Lead local and national sales activities, campaigns, and promotions.
  • Prepare and manage sales budgets, forecasts, and associated expenditure.
  • Identify emerging markets and develop strategies to maximise growth.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop regional sales teams.
  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new sales staff.
  • Set and monitor individual performance and sales targets.
  • Ensure the team meets quality objectives and accurately communicates customer requirements to production.
  • Develop and implement effective marketing campaigns and materials.
  • Provide promotional resources, including corporate apparel and collateral.
  • Represent the company at industry events.

About you

Essential:

  • Tertiary education in Engineering and/or Engineering Management (NZQF Level 7 or higher) or 5–10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • At least 3 years of staff management experience and a proven record in industrial sales.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels.
  • A proactive, independent thinker with sound decision-making capabilities.
  • Empathy, integrity, and the ability to inspire trust within a team.
  • High attention to detail and a meticulous, thorough approach.

Desirable:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree with a Master’s in Engineering Management and postgraduate qualifications in sales or marketing.
  • 10–15 years of allied product sales experience with strong knowledge of manufacturing processes.
