Roof Fitter / Welder

About the Role

Shield Roofing & Construction is seeking experienced Roof Fitter / Welder to join our team in Auckland. This is a hands-on role involving installation, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of metal roofing systems on residential and commercial projects. The successful candidate must be competent in welding and comfortable working at heights.

Key Responsibilities

• Install metal roofing systems including sheets, flashings, guttering, cladding, and associated components.

• Carry out welding and metal fabrication work 

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair roof issues including leaks, corrosion, and structural defects.

• Measure, cut, shape, and fit roofing materials according to plans and specifications.

• Operate tools and equipment safely, including welding machines and elevated work equipment.

• Follow all workplace health & safety procedures, especially when working at heights.

• Read and interpret drawings and job specifications.

• Ensure work is completed to high quality standards and within project timeframes.

Skills & Experience Required

• At least 2 years of relevant work experience in roofing, roof fitting, welding, or metal fabrication.

• Demonstrated welding competency

• Experience working safely at heights and using fall-protection equipment.

• Good understanding of roofing installation methods and NZ building requirements (training can be provided).

• Physical fitness for manual labour and outdoor work.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• A trade qualification in roofing or welding is advantageous but not essential.
