Role Overview:
The Stock Manager works under the direction of the Farm Owner and takes responsibility for the day-to-day management of livestock and all farm operations required on the property as determined by the owner. The role contributes across all areas of the business, including stock, feed, pasture, people, compliance, and farm maintenance, assisting with the business crops not limited to harvesting, picking and packaging when required from time to time. The position requires initiative, good stock sense, and the ability to work with limited supervision at times.
- Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.
Applicants must have the following as per employer’s requirement:
- Must be physically fit
- Must pass pre-employment drug test
- Must provide a CV Must provide verifiable references of previous employment history
- Must have a driver licence
- Tertiary education; and/or
- 1 year of pasture based dairy farming experience
Key Responsibilities:
Livestock Management
- Day-to-day management of livestock across all classes
- Monitoring animal health and welfare and treating or reporting issues promptly
- Handling stock calmly and safely
- Assisting with calving, mating, weaning, drafting, and sales
- Managing young stock and breeding stock to meet performance targets
Feed and Pasture Management
- Assisting with grazing management and feed allocation
- Completing farm walks and contributing to feed budgeting
- Feeding out supplements and setting up break fences
- Assisting with pasture, crop, and fertiliser programmes
Farm Operations
- Operating farm machinery, vehicles, and equipment safely
- Completing general farm maintenance and development work
- Maintaining fences, water systems, yards, and tracks
- Keeping the farm tidy, organised, and well presented
Recording and Communication
- Maintaining accurate stock and farm records
- Communicating observations, issues, and progress to the Farm Owner
- Supporting relief staff, contractors, and team members as required
Environmental and Compliance
- Assisting with environmental and regulatory compliance
- Following nutrient, grazing, and land management plans
- Identifying and reporting environmental or compliance risks
Health and Safety
- Following all farm health and safety policies
- Identifying hazards and reporting incidents or near misses
- Using PPE and safe work practices at all times
Other Duties
- Carrying out any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Farm Owner in support of the wider farming business and other aspects and area’s which may require assistance as the season predicts.
