Wanted ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT TRADES WORKERS for Eagle Recruitment NZ

Eagle Recruitment NZ is seeking skilled and safety-conscious Electronic Instrument Trades Workers to focus on the calibration, fault-finding, and maintenance of our client’s industrial and process control instrumentation. The scope of this role is limited explicitly to Extra-Low Voltage (ELV) circuits, control wiring, and the sensing/logic components of instruments. You will not be required to perform Prescribed Electrical Work (PEW) on main supply wiring (e.g., disconnection/reconnection of fixed wiring exceeding ELV limits).

About Us

Eagle Recruitment NZ specialises in connecting highly skilled talent with exceptional opportunities in niche industries. We are dedicated to facilitating permanent placements and labour-hire solutions that match employees' skill sets with employers' needs. Leveraging our extensive network and industry expertise, we streamline the hiring process to ensure mutual success for candidates and employers.

Responsibilities:

  • Calibration and Testing:

    • Conduct routine and advanced calibration, verification, and testing of process control instruments (e.g., temperature, pressure, flow, level transmitters, and analysers) to maintain process accuracy.

  • Diagnostics and Troubleshooting:

    • Diagnose and rectify faults in Extra-Low Voltage (ELV) electronic circuits (typically less than 50 V a.c. or 120 V d.c.) and signal cables connecting field devices to control systems (PLC/DCS/SCADA).

  • Instrument Replacement:

    • Disconnect and replace faulty instrument components, control valves, actuators, and sensors, provided this only involves connection to ELV control wiring or clearly defined plug-in connections.

  • Documentation:

    • Maintain precise, up-to-date records of all calibration activities, maintenance logs, and fault reports in compliance with company procedures and quality standards (ISO 9001 principles).

  • Support:

    • Assist the registered electrical team with installation and commissioning activities by performing non-PEW tasks such as cable pulling, glanding, and instrument fitting.

  • Wiring and Termination:

    • Perform high-quality electronic and electrical assembly, wiring, and termination, interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.

Requirements and Skills:

  • A Level 4 New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) certificate in Electronic Engineering, Industrial Measurement and Control, or equivalent recognised overseas qualification, or at least three years of relevant work experience.

  • A current or previous holder of an Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) Limited Scope or Trainee Restricted Certificate (formerly Practising Licence) is a significant advantage, but not required.

  • NZ Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant New Zealand industry codes and standards, preferred but not required, particularly:

    • AS/NZS 3000 (Electrical Installations): Knowledge of wiring rules and segregation standards, especially for ELV circuits.

    • AS/NZS 60079 series: Understanding of Hazardous Area electrical equipment principles (Ex concepts) is highly desirable, even if the work is non-PEW.

    • AS/NZS 3760 (In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment): Ability to assist with the testing of portable equipment, if required (but not the certification of fixed wiring).

  • Exceptional fault-finding, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent technical knowledge of P&ID diagrams, loop sheets, and schematic drawings.

  • Proficiency in working with a range of test equipment (e.g., multimeters, calibrators, oscilloscopes).

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical reporting and collaboration.

  • Reliability, methodical approach, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.

  • Must be an NZ Citizen, NZ Resident, or eligible to work in NZ.

The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in different locations (Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wellington, Nelson-Tasman, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland), providing a unique chance to explore New Zealand's diverse regions.

This is a full-time, permanent role, and the hourly pay rate ranges between NZ$30 and NZ$40, depending on experience and qualifications. The work hours are a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 70 hours per week, to be worked between Monday and Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.
