Hampidjan NZ is a trusted leader in rope, netting, and hardware solutions for commercial fishing, aquaculture, construction, and more. From our bases in Timaru, Christchurch and Nelson, we design and repair trawls, splice synthetic and wire ropes, manufacture custom gear, and provide essential support to industries that keep New Zealand moving.
About the Role
You will play a key part in our production team, contributing to the manufacture and repair of trawls for commercial fishing vessels. This role involves hands-on work with ropes and gear, as well as supporting general workshop operations. Responsibilities include:
- Manufacturing new trawls and repairing existing ones
- Rope splicing and gear assembly
- General labour and workshop support
- Collaborating with the team to meet work orders and schedules
- Working closely with the Net Loft Manager to manage production lead times
- Identifying opportunities for cost control
- Assisting with training new staff to build a broad skill base
- Ensuring compliance with all operating procedures
What We Are Looking For
We seek a Certified Net Maker with strong technical knowledge of net design and production. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Certified Net Maker with technical knowledge of design and production in net construction or equivalent
- Minimum five years of relevant experience required
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills
- Proficiency in mathematics and computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
- Attention to detail, self-motivation, and discipline with the ability to multi-task
- Physical fitness to handle lifting and standing for extended periods
- A collaborative and clear communication style
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to pass a criminal background check, physical assessment, and drug screening as per company policy
Preferred Skills
- Forklift license
- Knowledge of the fishing industry
