Auckland Blinds Limited, based in East Auckland, specialises in the manufacturing of high-quality curtains and blinds. Due to continued growth and increasing production demand, we are seeking an experienced Senior Industrial Sewing Machinist to join our skilled production team.

You will be expected to work at our premises located in the Auckland region, a minimum of 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday as normal hours of work, and you may also be required to perform on Saturday as well. Please note this is a permanent full-time role and the hourly pay rate would be $32.00-$37.00 based on the candidates' experience and skills.

 

Job Description for This Position

  • Perform advanced industrial sewing work for the manufacture of curtains and blinds to a consistently high standard

  • Independently set up, adjust, and fine-tune a range of industrial sewing machines, including flat sewing machines, blind hemmers, overlockers, pleating machines, walking-foot machines, and bar tack machines

  • Select and modify needles, threads, tensions, attachments, guides, and machine settings to suit different fabrics and designs

  • Diagnose and resolve sewing, stitching, and minor machine faults with minimal supervision

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions, ensuring accuracy in measurements, seams, and finishes

  • Inspect finished products for quality, identify defects or inconsistencies, and implement corrective actions

  • Provide technical guidance, on-the-job training, and support to junior and less experienced sewing machinists

  • Assist with coordinating workflow and prioritising tasks to meet daily and weekly production targets

  • Monitor production quality and efficiency, and report issues or improvement opportunities to supervisors or management

  • Carry out routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic servicing, and report major faults for repair

  • Ensure strict compliance with workplace health and safety procedures and quality standards at all times

  • Maintain a high level of organisation, accuracy, and attention to detail across all stages of production

Key Requirements for Successful Applicant

  • At least three or four years’ of relevant experience working experience, such as operating industrial sewing machines, finishing machines, etc. 

  • Proven ability to operate and adjust multiple types of industrial sewing machines independently

  • Strong understanding of fabric handling, measurements, cutting accuracy, and finishing standards

  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior machinists is highly desirable

  • Flexibility to work weekends when required
