The Kitchen Carpenter is responsible for the fabrication, installation, and finishing of kitchen cabinetry, benchtops, and related fixtures in residential and light commercial properties. The role requires advanced carpentry skills, the ability to interpret detailed joinery and kitchen layout plans, and a high level of accuracy to ensure functional, compliant, and high-quality kitchen installations. All work must meet New Zealand building standards, manufacturer specifications, and workplace health and safety requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Kitchen Carpenter will perform duties aligned with ANZSCO Level 3, including:

Interpreting kitchen design drawings, cabinetry plans, and specifications, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, and appliance integration requirements.

Measuring, cutting, assembling, and installing kitchen cabinetry, panels, shelves, carcasses, doors, drawers, and associated components.

Installing benchtops (timber, laminate, engineered stone, or solid surface), ensuring correct support, alignment, and finish (excluding licensed plumbing or electrical connections).

Fitting and installing hardware and fixtures, including hinges, drawer runners, handles, soft-close mechanisms, and adjustable systems.

Constructing and modifying custom kitchen components to suit site conditions, architectural constraints, and client requirements.

Ensuring cabinetry and fittings are level, plumb, square, and securely fixed, maintaining high standards of workmanship and finish.

Reading site conditions and resolving installation issues, including wall irregularities, floor levels, and alignment challenges.

Repairing, adjusting, or refurbishing existing kitchen cabinetry and joinery where required.

Selecting, preparing, and ordering materials, minimising waste and ensuring compatibility with kitchen systems and finishes.

Operating carpentry tools and machinery safely, including saws, routers, drills, and installation equipment.

Complying with workplace health and safety requirements, site procedures, and relevant building standards.

Coordinating with designers, supervisors, and other trades (such as plumbers and electricians) to ensure accurate sequencing and timely completion of kitchen installations.

Maintaining a clean and organised work area, protecting finished surfaces and client property during installation.

Qualifications and Experience
