Position: Maintenance Technician

 

Location: Bay of Plenty

 

Hours: The position is full-time and at least 30 hours of work is guaranteed per week, additional hours up to 45 per week may be available.

 

Wage:  $34 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults across a fleet of horticultural plant equipment, including tractors, forklifts, sprayers, and other hydraulic equipment.
  • Analyse recurrent equipment failures to identify root causes and implement engineering solutions that prevent future downtime during peak season.
  • Design, fabricate, and fit custom modifications to machinery to suit orchard conditions (e.g., adjusting wheel tracks, reinforcing chassis, or modifying spray booms).
  • Perform welding repairs on components of trailers and heavy equipment, ensuring structural integrity and safety.
  • Fit replacement parts or brackets when OEM parts are unavailable or require adapting.
  • Manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule (greasing, fluid changes, filter replacements) to ensure maximum fleet availability.
  • Calibrate application equipment (such as chemical sprayers) to ensure precise operation standards are met.
  • Oversee the roadworthiness and operational safety of the fleet, identifying wear and tear on non-engine components (brakes, suspension, drive shafts) before they become critical failures.
  • Serve as the technical lead for all plant equipment inquiries, acting as the primary point of contact for resolving machinery issues immediately.
  • Maintain detailed service logs and technical documentation for all assets to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Liaise with external specialists for major engine or transmission overhauls, providing technical specifications and pre-diagnostic information to ensure outsourced work is scoped correctly.

 

Requirements:

 

·        At least 3 years’ relevant experience or a relevant tertiary qualification (level 4 or higher) in engineering, mechanical engineering, applied technology or similar.

·        Excellent communication skills.

·        Comfortable working in rural areas and in all weather conditions.

·        Driver’s license.

·        Willing to complete random drug testing
