About the Role
Kericell Nursery Ltd is looking for an experienced Senior Nursery Worker to play a key role in our day-to-day operations. You will support the Production Manager in maintaining high standards of plant care and workflow efficiency while providing guidance to junior staff. This is a hands-on role requiring strong practical skills, reliability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Plant Care & Maintenance: Carry out daily tasks including watering, pruning, spacing, weeding, pest control, spraying, and general plant maintenance.
- Production Support: Support the Production Manager with implementing production schedules and completing seasonal tasks.
- Team Guidance: Provide guidance and on-the-job training to junior staff, ensuring correct techniques and safe work practices are followed.
- Health Monitoring: Monitor plant health and promptly report issues such as pests, diseases, or irrigation problems.
- Operational Tasks: Assist with potting, transplanting, seeding, and preparing plants for dispatch.
- Site Management: Maintain cleanliness and organization across all work areas, including sheds, tunnels, and outdoor spaces.
- Equipment & Records: Operate nursery equipment safely and record basic production data, such as plant counts or losses, when required.
- Logistics & Safety: Assist with stock rotation, labeling, and order preparation while following all health and safety procedures.
Terms and Conditions:

Location: 1589 State Highway 10, Kerikeri, Northland.

Type of Employment: Full-time, Permanent.

Rate of Pay: NZD $25.00 – $27.00 per hour (based on experience).

Guaranteed Hours: Minimum of 30 hours per week is guaranteed.

Note: Actual expected hours are 40–50 hours per week, generally scheduled between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm.

Work Environment: Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments.
Minimum Skills and Experience Required
- Experience: Proven experience in a commercial nursery environment with a strong understanding of plant care.
- Leadership: Ability to lead by example and guide junior staff members.
- Technical Skills: Competency in operating nursery equipment (e.g., sprayers, irrigation systems) and performing hands-on tasks to a high standard.
- Personal Attributes: Strong attention to detail, reliability, and excellent communication skills.
