Days Required: Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to work evenings and weekends during events or peak season (e.g. tournaments, games)
Hours Per Week: Minimum 30 hours, up to 40 hours per week
Hourly Rate or Salary Band: $70,000 per annum
Job Description
The Dunedin Ice Hockey Association (DIHA) is seeking a General Manager to plan, coordinate, and lead the day-to-day operations of the club while supporting its strategic growth, particularly in youth and community hockey. This is a leadership role responsible for the smooth and professional functioning of the organisation, requiring a mix of strategic oversight, operational coordination, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
As General Manager, you will:
· Plan and coordinate the delivery of all club operations, competitions, and programmes across youth and adult hockey
· Organise and manage the club’s day-to-day administrative, financial, and operational functions
· Direct and control the delivery of Learn to Play, youth, and adult leagues, ensuring programme quality and sustainability
· Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, financial reporting, and GST returns in line with strategic priorities
· Identify and apply for charitable funding to support club development, including ice time, gear, and salaries
· Recruit, coordinate and support volunteers including coaches, managers, and administrators
· Promote ice hockey through community engagement, school outreach, events, and club communications
· Maintain and manage player registrations, esports systems, and club communications via newsletters, website, and social media
· Liaise with the DIHA Board through regular reporting on performance, programme delivery, and financial status
· Develop and uphold club policies and procedures that ensure safety, inclusiveness, and professionalism
· Support player and programme development by staying up to date with national and international best practices (e.g. IIHF, USA Hockey)
· Assist with on-ice delivery of programmes and referee/scorebench duties as needed to ensure continuity of club operations
Job Pre-Requisites
Required Skills and Experience:
· A Bachelor’s degree or higher-level qualification in a relevant field (e.g. management, business)
· Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in ice hockey (e.g. coaching, playing, officiating, or administration)
· Experience in sports or club management and/or youth programme development
· Strong financial, operational, and organisational management skills
· Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
· Experience managing or working with volunteers
· Proficiency with financial systems, spreadsheets, and digital communication tools
· Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
· A passion for youth sport and community development
