Senior Tyre Technician – Heavy & Commercial Vehicles 

Our client , Wigram Logistics Ltd  are currently looking for a senior tyre technician with strong hands-on experience across passenger, commercial, and heavy vehicles, who are confident working with complex tyre systems and wheel alignment technology including heavy trucks & trailers.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity, offering varied work across a diverse client base.

Role details

  • Location: Auckland

  • Hours: 40 hours per week

  • Pay rate: $35 – $45 per hour, depending on experience and capability

  • Work may include evenings, weekends, and public holidays, based on operational needs


Key duties and responsibilities

  • Inspect, assess, and service tyres for light vehicles, commercial fleets, and heavy machinery including trucks and buses

  • Carry out tyre fitting, removal, replacement, and puncture repairs in accordance with safety and manufacturer standards

  • Complete casing checks, retread evaluations, pressure adjustments, and routine tyre maintenance

  • Safely handle and install heavy-vehicle wheel assemblies using appropriate lifting and workshop equipment

  • Perform wheel alignment and balancing on both light and heavy vehicles, ensuring accurate specifications and safe operation

  • Identify and resolve vibration issues, alignment faults, and uneven tyre wear

  • Diagnose tyre-related performance concerns, structural defects, and operational risks

  • Calibrate and reset tyre and wheel-related systems 

  • Provide clear explanations to customers regarding repair options, warranties, compliance requirements, and recommended services

  • Prepare accurate job estimates and cost quotations

  • Maintain professional, customer-focused communication at all times

  • Follow workplace health and safety requirements, particularly when working with heavy tyres and machinery

  • Operate hoists, alignment machines, and workshop tools safely and correctly

  • Keep the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards

  • Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to junior team members as required

  • Consistently apply industry best practice and quality control standards


Skills and experience required

  •  a minimum of three years’ relevant industry experience

  • Proven experience working with petrol vehicles, commercial fleets, and heavy vehicles

  • Strong understanding of heavy-duty tyre systems, including industrial, radial, bias-ply, tubed, and tubeless tyres

  • Competency in tyre diagnostics, repairs, balancing, wheel alignment,and calibrationn

  • Experience with chemical and vulcanised tyre repair processes

  • Ability to identify tyre wear patterns and assess safety or performance risks

  • Solid knowledge of safe handling procedures for heavy vehicle tyres and equipment

  • Strong communication skills and accurate record-keeping ability

  • Welding ability would also be very beneficial
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug test

  • Clean criminal record
