Herd Manager

HR Gill Farm Limited is looking for a Herd Manager to join our team.

Job Title: Herd Manager

Pay rate: $32 - $35 per hour

Location: Waikato

Minimum Weekly Hours: 30

Duties:

• Monitor the health, condition, and productivity of the herd.
• Draft and treat sick cows including Mastitis, lame cows, Penicillin cases.
•  Maintain accurate records of treatments, production, and reproduction.
• Coordinate with veterinarians for animal health plans.
• Supervise calving, calf rearing, and heifer management.
• Monitor cow behaviour to detect signs of illness or oestrus.
• Oversee and participate in efficient milking processes.
• Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of the milking shed, equipment, and udders.
• Maintain milk quality standards and vat hygiene.
• Prepare and manage feed rations using a mixer wagon.
• Ensure all animals receive appropriate feed and clean water.
• Monitor feed consumption and adjust plans as needed in consultation with nutritionists or farm owners.
• Plan and implement paddock rotations.
• Monitor pasture growth and ensure adequate feed supply.
• Coordinate weed control and pasture maintenance.
• Lead and supervise farm assistants and other staff.
• Train new staff on herd management procedures and animal welfare.
• Delegate tasks effectively and ensure daily operations run smoothly.
• Ensure health & safety protocols are followed.
• Maintain farm infrastructure including fences, sheds, and troughs.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards.

Requirements:

•     2 years of experince or Level 4 qualifications
•     Class 1 License 
•           You must be motivated, reliable and physically fit.
•           Also be able to work late nights, early mornings and weekends.
•           Zero tolerance of drugs at workplace.
