Operate excavators ranging from 2T to 30T to support civil and drainage construction projects across the Auckland region. You’ll be responsible for safe and efficient machine operation, assisting with drainage installation, completing daily plant checks, and contributing to a productive site environment. This is a full-time role with consistent hours, long-term projects, and a supportive team culture.

Location: Auckland Region – projects across Auckland CBD, Huntly, and Pōkeno for example.
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay: $38 to $38.59 per hour.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, a minimum of 40 hours worked, with up to 55 maximum. Potential for overtime.  

About the Role:

ROCKHARD is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Excavator Operator to join our civil and drainage team. You’ll be working on large-scale wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects, operating excavators and supporting site works to deliver high-quality outcomes safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate excavators (2T–30T) for civil and drainage construction works.

  • Carry out general labouring duties as required by the site supervisor.

  • Complete daily pre-start checks, servicing, and basic plant maintenance.

  • Identify and report mechanical issues or defects to the Plant Manager.

  • Assist with loading, unloading, and securing loads as required.

  • Participate in daily Toolbox and Pre-Start meetings.

  • Maintain accurate records including timesheets, site diaries, material deliveries, and H&S documentation.

  • Follow all Rockhard Civil & Drainage policies, procedures, and site-specific rules.

  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, team members, and other contractors to meet project timelines.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum Class 1 Full Driver Licence with R, T, W endorsements.

  • ConstructSafe Certificate (or equivalent).

  • At least 2+ years’ experience operating excavators in civil and drainage works.

  • Experience operating excavators from small (2T) to heavy (30T).

  • Knowledge of drainage trenching, civil construction techniques, and site processes.

  • Ability to read plans, understand levels and topography (advantageous).

  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform minor maintenance.

  • Comfortable using mobile devices (tablet/smartphone) for digital reporting.

  • Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks including climbing into plant and securing loads.
