Work Hours:

 

30–50 hours per week (minimum 30 hours guaranteed)

 

Pay Rate:

 

$27–$31 per hour

Canterbury, New Zealand

 

Permanent role.

 

The duties include:

  • Preparing and optimizing potting mixes, hydroponic substrates, and containers based on strain genetics, growth cycles, and regulatory requirements;
  • Selecting and propagating high-quality medical cannabis plants through seed germination, cloning, grafting, and transplanting to maintain genetic stability and yield consistency;
  • Managing plant health and productivity by implementing pruning, defoliation, canopy management, and de-budding techniques to optimize cannabinoid and terpene profiles;
  • Maintaining optimal cultivation conditions, including temperature, humidity, CO₂ levels, irrigation, nutrient delivery, and integrated pest management (IPM) to ensure pharmaceutical-grade quality;
  • Monitoring and documenting key growth indicators, including THC, CBD, CBN, and terpene concentrations, using validated analytical methods;
  • Harvesting, curing, and processing medical cannabis in compliance with Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards;
  • Ensuring strict adherence to local and international regulatory frameworks, including compliance with cultivation licenses, quality assurance protocols, and security requirements;
  • Collaborating with research teams to develop new medical cannabis strains, optimize cultivation techniques, and enhance cannabinoid extraction processes;
  • Maintaining accurate records of cultivation activities, lab testing results, batch tracking, and compliance reports for regulatory audits;
  • May provide training on or advise contracting staff and authorized clients on medical cannabis cultivation, processing, and best practices.

 

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of work experience in plant cultivation, plant-based laboratory research, biology, chemistry or any other relevant roles, OR
  • A relevant diploma (or higher) in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry or a related field;
  • Must agree to undergo a drug test before recruitment and during employment;
  • A clean criminal record;
  • A full driver’s license is preferred but not mandatory;

Priority will be given to New Zealand residents/citizens.
