The Project Manager – Construction is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination, and delivery of construction projects. The role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with New Zealand building and health and safety regulations.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate construction projects from start to completion
- Prepare and update project schedules and work programmes
- Monitor project progress, costs, and timelines
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams
- Communicate with clients, consultants, and council authorities as required
- Assist with managing project budgets and variations
- Ensure compliance with the Building Act 2004, NZ Building Code, and council requirements
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections
- Assist with council inspections and Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) processes
- Maintain accurate project documentation and reports
Essential
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in a construction project management, assistant project management, or site supervision role
- Knowledge of New Zealand construction practices, materials, and building methods
- Ability to coordinate subcontractors and manage site activities
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
- Basic computer skills for project reporting and communication
- Full New Zealand driver licence (or ability to obtain one)
Desirable
- Qualification in Construction Management, Building, Engineering, or a related field
- Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) status or working towards it
- Experience with residential and/or commercial construction projects
