Painter

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, filling, stripping old paint, and cleaning.

• Apply paint, varnish, stains, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.

• Select, mix, and match paints and finishes according to specifications.

• Measure and estimate material requirements for each project.

• Erect and dismantle ladders, scaffolding, and safety equipment as required.

• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timeframes.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean worksite.

• Identify and report surface defects or maintenance issues.

• Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• NZ Certificate in Painting and Decorating (Level 4) or equivalent qualification; or

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, which may substitute for a formal qualification.

• Experience in residential or commercial painting is preferred.

• Knowledge of New Zealand building standards is an advantage.

• Sound knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and surface preparation.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Good attention to detail and time management skills.

• Physically fit and comfortable working at heights and in various environments.

• Commitment to health and safety practices.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
• Ability to estimate materials and time for jobs
• Experience in drywall repair, wallpaper removal, or decorative finishes
