Role Overview
The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting food to a high standard. The role requires strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food hygiene, and safe work practices, as well as the ability to work cooperatively with other kitchen staff in a fast-paced environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Inspect, select, and prepare ingredients required for cooking.
· Measure, clean, chop, blend, season, heat, and cool food items according to recipe requirements and kitchen standards.
· Monitor cooking processes to ensure food is cooked properly, consistently, and to quality presentation standards.
· Assist in creating, testing, and developing new recipes and menu items.
· Coordinate, supervise, and work collaboratively with kitchen staff during food preparation and cooking.
· Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen areas, equipment, tools, and utensils.
· Ensure all food is handled, stored, and prepared in accordance with food safety regulations.
· Monitor stock levels and maintain inventory of food supplies and kitchen equipment.
· Report shortages and ensure proper stock rotation is followed.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following:
· A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification; or
· At least two years of relevant work experience.
Other Skills Required
· Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
· Knowledge of food hygiene standards, stock rotation, and food storage methods.
