About the opportunity:
An established environmental services organisation is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager – Asbestos to lead its accredited laboratory operations. This is a senior, hands-on role combining people leadership, technical oversight, and quality management in a high-performing asbestos analysis environment.
Role description:
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing laboratory staff, overseeing and carrying out asbestos analysis, maintaining IANZ 17025 accreditation, and acting as a Key Technical Person. The role ensures accurate, efficient sample turnaround while leading continuous improvement, audit readiness, and strong client service delivery.
Responsibilities will include:

Managing laboratory staff, workflow, KPIs, and performance

Overseeing and carrying out asbestos analysis and quality assurance processes

Acting as Key Technical Person and authorising test reports

Maintaining IANZ 17025 accreditation and audit readiness

Liaising with clients and internal teams on technical matters
This role will suit someone with all or some of the following background/experience/qualities:

Minimum 4 years asbestos laboratory analysis experience (5+ preferred)

Proven experience in IANZ / ISO 17025 accredited laboratories

Strong leadership and people management capability

High-level asbestos microscopy and analytical expertise

Confidence working under pressure and meeting tight turnaround times
