About the opportunity:

An established environmental services organisation is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager – Asbestos to lead its accredited laboratory operations. This is a senior, hands-on role combining people leadership, technical oversight, and quality management in a high-performing asbestos analysis environment.

Role description:

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing laboratory staff, overseeing and carrying out asbestos analysis, maintaining IANZ 17025 accreditation, and acting as a Key Technical Person. The role ensures accurate, efficient sample turnaround while leading continuous improvement, audit readiness, and strong client service delivery.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing laboratory staff, workflow, KPIs, and performance

  • Overseeing and carrying out asbestos analysis and quality assurance processes

  • Acting as Key Technical Person and authorising test reports

  • Maintaining IANZ 17025 accreditation and audit readiness

  • Liaising with clients and internal teams on technical matters

 

This role will suit someone with all or some of the following background/experience/qualities: 

  • Minimum 4 years asbestos laboratory analysis experience (5+ preferred)

  • Proven experience in IANZ / ISO 17025 accredited laboratories

  • Strong leadership and people management capability

  • High-level asbestos microscopy and analytical expertise

  • Confidence working under pressure and meeting tight turnaround times
