Our Seafood team in Tāmaki Makaurau is seeking a skilled Fish Cutter to join our busy morning shift.

This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone with strong knife skills and a commitment to quality seafood preparation.

Position Snapshot

  • Immediate start
  • Permanent, full‑time role
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 04:00am – 12:30pm (Occasional Saturdays)
  • Location: Ihumātao Road, Māngere

Te Tūranga | The Role

In this role, you will prepare fish and other seafood products for sale by cutting, filleting, cubing, and shelling. You will also assist with stock handling and general duties within the Seafood room. The role involves standing for extended periods in a temperature‑controlled environment and performing repetitive manual tasks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and washing seafood products in accordance with food safety guidelines
  • Filleting fish and removing fins
  • Slicing and cubing products and packing to required standards
  • Removing slime and preparing fish correctly for packaging
  • Dressing, wrapping, and labelling seafood products
  • Inspecting seafood for defects, bruising, or blemishes
  • Processing seafood into sale‑ready cuts
  • Storing packed items in chillers and freezers
  • Maintaining cleanliness and sanitisation of preparation areas
  • Disposing of waste (scales, skins, offcuts) according to standards
  • Cleaning and maintaining knives and other tools daily
  • Performing heavy lifting (up to 20 kgs)
  • Monitoring product quality prior to packaging
  • Maintaining general housekeeping standards
  • Adhering strictly to food safety, health, and safety requirements

Ngā Āhuatanga kei a Koe | About You

You will have 2–3 years of relevant experience in the seafood industry and be able to work independently while maintaining high quality and safety standards. As this role is in a temperature‑controlled environment, you must be comfortable working in cold conditions and physically fit.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A trade qualification (preferred, not essential)
  • Excellent knife handling skills
  • Experience in chiller and/or food processing environments
  • New Zealand seafood experience and product knowledge
  • Physical fitness for heavy lifting
  • Reliable transport and flexibility with early starts
  • Clear communication skills
  • A confident, flexible attitude with strong attention to detail
  • Intermediate literacy and numeracy skills
  • A strong work ethic and reliability
  • A good understanding of health and safety requirements
