The Opportunity

This is a genuinely unique opportunity for an ambitious, motivated, and technically capable professional to play a key role in growing the business across multiple revenue streams.

The position will focus on driving growth across used equipment sales, asset management projects, and the service and maintenance arm of the business. It is a varied, commercially focused role that blends proactive business development with hands-on involvement in asset management initiatives.

You will be responsible for researching and targeting potential used equipment buyers and sellers, both within New Zealand and internationally, identifying opportunities across plant upgrades, closures, and asset rationalisation programmes, and helping to further develop the company’s auction and service and maintenance offerings.

This is not a traditional business development role. It combines sales, technical understanding, and asset management, giving you the opportunity to originate opportunities rather than simply respond to leads.

You will work across the full equipment lifecycle, identifying assets, assessing commercial viability, shaping go-to-market strategies, and negotiating sales terms and agreements.

Ideally, you will bring proven business development experience within the food and beverage sector. However, this role may also suit someone with an engineering background who has successfully transitioned into a sales-focused role.

 

The Role – In More Detail

  • Proactively identify and pursue sources of used and surplus equipment, including plant closures, brownfield upgrades, asset rationalisation programmes, and other disposal events across New Zealand (with emphasis on the Auckland region).

  • Develop and maintain relationships with asset owners to secure long-term equipment supply opportunities and ensure they company as the preferred partner for disposals and maintenance needs.

  • Identify and generate sales opportunities for services (maintenance, repairs, service contracts, system integration projects, and site works) by leveraging equipment-sourcing contacts, internal referrals, external networks, and targeted outreach to small-to-medium enterprises across all industries.

  • Maintain an active programme of client/site visits to build relationships, uncover equipment disposal and maintenance needs, and follow up on leads (internal and external).

  • Manage and develop the auction business, including local auctions and the international partnerships to facilitate the sale and realisation of assets.

  • Research local and international markets to identify potential buyers of used equipment.

  • Grow and maintain a strategic database of used-equipment suppliers and customers (national, international, and industry-specific).

  • Coordinate on-site removal and relocation to the Auckland workshop and the necessary intake processes.

  • Lead commercial negotiations with asset owners and buyers; structuring and negotiating purchase agreements, consignment agreements, agency and revenue-sharing models.

  • Utilise Pipedrive CRM to record, track, and manage all business opportunities, sales leads, and client interactions.

About You: To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

  • Proven sales or business development experience, preferably within the food and beverage processing or plant and equipment sector

  • A strong technical understanding, (A mechanical or engineering background would be highly regarded)

  • Strong research capability and a natural ability to uncover and analyse opportunity.

  • Excellent commercial and relationship-building skills.

  • Project management experience

  • A genuine appetite to learn, apply new knowledge, and develop expertise.

  • Confidence across the sales process, including targeted marketing activity.

  • Strong commercial judgement with the ability to balance risk and reward.

  • Demonstrated success in buying and selling to maximise margin and profitability.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.

  • Ability to manage time and a varied workload through prioritisation

  • Works well under pressure and to deadlines

  • Confidence using systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and a CRM.

  • Well-developed negotiation and stakeholder-management capability.
