Herd Manager

We are looking for someone who have at least 2 year experience in dairy farming. We run system 3 farm, cows get feed through in-shed feed system and silage feed in to paddocks. We do use mower to keep the grass quality good during summer. It’s a job for someone who would like to learn more about farming and take responsibility. Person should be smoke and alcohol free, we run a smoke free farm. We do random drug tests to ensure health and safety on farm. We may ask you to get drug test done before you start your work for us.

We expect you to be able to do following job duties :

1. Morning and afternoon milking.
2. Calf rearing, weighing etc, with full responsibility and accuracy.
3. Keep SCC below 150 we have achieved Te tihi this year and want to make sure herd manager is capable of working for it.
4. Calves collection from paddock with accuracy of data collection
5. Tagging calves and cows.
6. Drenching calves and cows.
7. Bringing cows in from paddocks ( so be able to ride 2 wheeler or 4 wheeler).
8. Spraying and mowing, have good machinery skills to keep things in good shape. Person should have respect for the machinery and equipment to keep everything clean, safe and sound.
9. Keeping dairy shed and other farm areas clean and presentable.Be able to put temporary fences on.
10. Be able to take charge of staff and have the leadership skills to manage team if we are away.
