Install and maintain wastewater and stormwater drainage infrastructure across civil construction projects in the Auckland region. This role involves hands-on drainage installation, trench works, pipe laying, and supporting site operations to deliver high-quality outcomes safely and efficiently. This is a full-time role offering consistent hours, long-term projects, and a supportive team environment.

Location: Auckland Region – projects across Auckland CBD, West & South Auckland, Huntly, and Pōkeno
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $30-$35 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday, minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week. Overtime may be available depending on project requirements.


About the Role

ROCKHARD is seeking a motivated and safety-focused Drainlayer / Drainage Technician to join our civil and drainage team. You will be working on wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects, supporting site works and completing drainage installations in line with plans, specifications, and New Zealand standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install wastewater and stormwater drainage systems including pipes, manholes, and catch pits
  • Assist with trenching, excavation, bedding preparation, and backfilling
  • Ensure correct pipe alignment, levels, and compaction
  • Mix, pour, and finish concrete and epoxy for drainage structures
  • Load, unload, and organise materials, tools, and equipment on site
  • Carry out general labouring duties as directed by the Site Supervisor or Team Leader
  • Participate in daily Toolbox and Pre-Start meetings
  • Maintain accurate site documentation including site diaries, material delivery records, and H&S documentation
  • Keep work areas clean, organised, and safe
  • Follow all Rockhard Civil & Drainage policies, procedures, and site-specific rules

Health & Safety

  • Work in accordance with Site Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA), and Traffic Management Plans (TMP)
  • Identify, report, and control hazards on site
  • Report accidents, incidents, and near misses in line with company procedures
  • Use PPE correctly and follow safe work practices at all times
  • Ensure the safety of yourself, your team, and the public

What We’re Looking For

  • NZ Certificate in Drainlaying (Level 4) or working towards qualification
  • Up to 3 years’ relevant experience in civil or drainage construction
  • Minimum Class 1 Driver Licence
  • ConstructSafe Certificate (or equivalent) preferred
  • Knowledge of drainage installation, trenching, and civil construction practices
  • Ability to follow plans, instructions, and site requirements
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour including lifting, trench work, and handling materials
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to carry out minor maintenance (desirable)
