MT Service Ltd is an Auckland-based company seeking a motivated and reliable Drainlaying Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on technical role involving regulated drainlaying work carried out in accordance with New Zealand building standards.
You will carry out technical drainlaying duties within authorised scope under licensed supervision as required by New Zealand occupational licensing law. The role does not include independent certification of work. Supervision is required for regulatory compliance and does not alter the skilled technical nature of the work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installing, altering, maintaining and repairing underground drainage systems and associated pipework
- Measuring, cutting, joining and positioning drainage pipes and fittings
- Excavating and preparing trenches to required specifications
- Reading and interpreting drainage plans, specifications and determining site layouts and materials
- Testing and inspecting drainage systems for leaks, blockages and operational performance
- Diagnosing drainage faults and assisting with technical repairs
- Ensuring drainage work complies with New Zealand building and safety standards
- Operating tools and equipment used in drainlaying installation and repair
- Installing sewerage and effluent pumping equipment and disposal systems
- Maintaining accurate worksite practices in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Participating in system installation from designing, preparation through to testing and completion
Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience is required
- Eligible to hold Exempt Drainlayer authorisation issued by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB)
- Physically fit and able to perform manual work
- Able to work effectively as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Understanding of workplace health and safety practices
What We Offer:
We will ensure appropriate supervision by a licensed practitioner and support the employee in working within PGDB authorisation requirements.
- Hourly pay rate of $30.00 – $40.00, depending on technical competence and experience
- Permanent, full-time employment with guaranteed minimum 30 working hours per week
- Work based across the Auckland region
