Butcher – Join Our Team

We are looking for dedicated, reliable, and enthusiastic Butchers to join our growing team. This is an exciting hands-on opportunity within the meat industry for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, food safety, and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Cutting

  • Select and inspect meat to ensure quality and freshness

  • Cut, trim, bone, slice, and portion meat to customer specifications and company standards

  • Prepare value-added products including sausages, burger patties, marinades, bacon, ham, and specialty cuts

  • Operate meat processing equipment such as slicers, grinders, and tenderisers

  • Monitor smallgoods production to ensure quality, hygiene, and efficiency

Customer Service

  • Assist customers with product selection and provide knowledgeable advice

  • Weigh, label, package, and present meat products for retail or supply

  • Create and maintain attractive, well-stocked product displays

Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety compliance

  • Clean and sanitise work areas and equipment daily

  • Follow all hygiene regulations and wear required PPE

Stock & Team Support

  • Assist with inventory management, stock rotation, and ordering supplies

  • Ensure freshness, traceability, and quality control

  • Work collaboratively with senior butchers and team members

  • Take direction positively and contribute to a supportive team environment


Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant butcher experience 

  • Strong knowledge of meat cuts and preparation techniques

  • Excellent knife skills and safe meat handling ability

  • Solid understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 25kg


Working Conditions

  • Minimum guaranteed 30 hours per week (up to 40 hours)

  • Early starts and weekend work may be required

  • Cold working environments (chillers and freezers)

  • PPE provided (gloves, apron, steel mesh, etc.)


Requirements

  • NZ Citizenship, NZ Residency, or a valid NZ work visa

  • Clean police certificate

  • Recent drug test

  • Full, clean driver’s licence
