Our client is a long-standing and highly respected supplier to New Zealand’s manufacturing sectors. They operate across the full equipment lifecycle, from supplying new capital equipment through to asset management, used equipment trading, auctions, service, maintenance, and plant relocations.

Their breadth of capability allows you to offer customers real commercial solutions, not just products.

The Opportunity:

This is not a traditional Business Development role.

It is an opportunity for a commercially sharp, relationship-driven professional to build something meaningful by identifying, acquiring, and strategically reselling plant equipment across New Zealand and international markets.

You will work closely with medium-sized manufacturing and processing businesses, building trusted partnerships that position you as their first call when plant upgrades, surplus assets, or rationalisation programmes arise.

Your strength will lie in opening doors, spotting opportunity early, and recognising where genuine commercial value can be created.

At its core, this is a commercial trading role — buying well, structuring deals intelligently, and selling strategically to maximise return.

This is a relationship lead business development role where you will:

  • Proactively build relationships with medium-sized manufacturers and plant owners

  • Identify and secure strategic acquisition opportunities for used and surplus equipment

  • Assess asset value and resale potential

  • Structure acquisition or consignment agreements

  • Lead commercial negotiations and agree terms

  • Coordinate removal, relocation, and resale processes

  • Drive margin-focused trading across domestic and international markets

  • Leverage relationships to generate service and maintenance opportunities

  • Manage the full commercial lifecycle — from opportunity identification through to profitable completion

Growth & Development

No one will walk into this role completely “ready-made.”

What matters most is your commercial curiosity, your initiative, and your ability to recognise opportunity where others may not.

You will be supported to deepen your technical and market knowledge over time, but you must bring the drive to learn, ask questions, and immerse yourself in understanding equipment value, buyer demand, and margin dynamics.

This role will suit someone who:

  • Is naturally inquisitive and commercially minded

  • Is confident opening doors and building credibility with business owners

  • Has a natural trader’s mindset — comfortable buying and selling

  • Enjoys spotting margin opportunity where others may not

  • Thinks creatively and commercially

  • Has strong negotiation capability

  • Is comfortable balancing risk and reward

  • Wants to grow into a highly capable commercial trader

This role is for someone who thrives in an environment where opportunity must be uncovered, shaped, and progressed through persistence and commercial instinct.

For the right person, this role offers genuine long-term development and the chance to build real expertise in asset trading and capital equipment markets.

You may currently be:

  • A Business Development Manager within capital equipment or manufacturing

  • Working in asset management, auctions, or plant trading

  • A commercially minded professional ready to step beyond traditional sales

  • Exposure to food and beverage processing or manufacturing industries is advantageous.

  • Engineering capability would also be beneficial.

  • Six-figure base salary + profit share

  • Company vehicle, mobile phone, and laptop

  • Health insurance (with family support)

  • Company-sponsored education fund for family
