Brightside Construction is an Auckland-based construction and civil specialist with proven expertise in earthworks, foundations, subdivision development, and end-to-end project delivery. Due to continued growth and an expanding pipeline of civil infrastructure and subdivision projects, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Civil Engineering Technician to join our team.
The Civil Engineering Technician will support the planning, design, documentation, and on-site implementation of civil engineering works across earthworks, foundation construction, drainage systems, roading, and subdivision projects.
This role involves technical support to project managers and site managers through site supervision, drafting, surveying assistance, quality control, and compliance monitoring. This is a permanent full-time position, and you will be required to work at least 40 hours per week between Monday and Saturday.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Design Support
• Interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications for civil and subdivision projects.
• Assist project manager in preparing detailed drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
• Prepare technical documentation, including quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and material specifications.
• Assist with stormwater, wastewater, roading, and foundation design documentation.
• Review engineering plans to ensure constructability and compliance with NZ standards.
Site & Construction Support
• Supervise and coordinate site activities to ensure works are completed according to approved plans and specifications.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor earthworks, drainage installation, pavement construction, and foundation preparation.
• Ensure construction quality meets engineering tolerances and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with set-out verification and liaise with surveyors where required.
• Identify and report technical issues and propose practical solutions.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
• Ensure compliance with Auckland Council regulations, NZ Building Code, and relevant industry standards.
• Maintain project records including site reports, progress documentation, and quality assurance checklists.
• Monitor health and safety compliance on site in accordance with NZ H&S legislation.
• Assist in managing environmental controls on civil construction sites.
Project Coordination
• Liaise with site managers, subcontractors, surveyors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Track construction progress against programme schedules.
• Assist in procurement planning and material coordination.
• Support project managers in resolving technical and logistical challenges.
Skills & Experience Required
• At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering OR
• At least 2 years of relevant industry experience in civil construction, earthworks, or subdivision projects.
• Strong understanding of:
i. - Earthworks and site preparation
ii. - Drainage and stormwater systems
iii. - Pavement and roading construction
iv. - Foundations and structural base preparation
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Practical problem-solving ability in a fast-paced site environment.
