About the opportunity:
An excellent opportunity exists for an experienced Stainless Workshop Manager to lead and coordinate a busy stainless and sheetmetal fabrication workshop. This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of the workshop while delivering high-quality fabrication work across multiple project streams.
This role will suit a trade-qualified fabrication professional who enjoys leading teams, improving systems, and driving performance across projects, budgets and client expectations.
Role description:
The Stainless Workshop Manager is responsible for the efficient running of all work within the stainless workshop, overseeing a team of approximately 16–20 staff. The role involves planning and supervising fabrication activities, coordinating project schedules, ensuring compliance with quality and HSE requirements, and supporting wider business operations.
Working closely with internal departments and the stainless Sales Engineer, you will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to client specifications, while maintaining strong client relationships.
Responsibilities will include:

Management of the day-to-day running of the stainless workshop

Supervision of stainless fabrication work including Cuddon Freeze Dryers, stainless tube and pipe fabrication, general stainless fabrication, and sheetmetal fabrication work

Workshop planning and scheduling of project and jobbing work to ensure efficient operations and site productivity targets are met

Oversight of budgets, timelines, quality standards, HSE compliance and risk mitigation

Scheduling of procurement and coordination of activities to ensure projects meet planned milestones

Supporting stainless and sheetmetal sales in conjunction with the stainless Sales Engineer

Responding to warranty and maintenance requirements to maintain long-term client relationships

Supporting other departments with relevant fabrication work as required
This role will suit someone with all or some of the following background/experience/qualities:

Advanced Trade Qualification (NZQA Level 5 minimum)

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role within fabrication

Proven workshop management and staff leadership experience

Strong background in stainless and sheetmetal fabrication

Solid project management experience within a fabrication or engineering environment

Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail

Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills

Team-focused leadership style

Sound computer literacy and presentation skills
