We are operating a transport business that includes freezer trucks, swinglift units, and curtainsiders, with regular contracted work through Halls, StraitNZ, and other logistics partners. Our trucks operate primarily across day shifts, servicing a range of commercial clients.

We are now seeking a committed and hardworking Transport Manager to oversee our fleet operations. The successful candidate will be guaranteed a minimum of 35 hours per week, paid $33 to $35 per hour

Key Responsibilities

The Transport Manager will be responsible for the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of our transport fleet, including:

Operational & Administrative Duties

  • Oversee day‑to‑day fleet office operations, ensuring a clean, organised, and professional work environment.
  • Manage procurement of staff uniforms, PPE, and operational supplies in line with health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of driver attendance, leave, shift allocations, and daily run sheets.
  • Monitor workloads and allocate duties to drivers based on operational needs and service schedules.
  • Maintain financial and operational records, including payments, receipts, payroll inputs, and coordination with the accountant for IRD, PAYE, and GST obligations.
  • Use accounting or fleet management software to track expenses, generate reports, and support budgeting.

Route Planning & Scheduling

  • Plan and coordinate daily transport schedules for freezer trucks, swinglifts, and curtainsiders.
  • Develop efficient and cost‑effective routes to reduce fuel consumption, improve turnaround times, and meet client and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure timely completion of contracted work with Halls, StraitNZ, and other logistics partners.

Fleet Maintenance & Compliance

  • Ensure all trucks meet road safety standards, maintain current registrations, and pass COF inspections.
  • Schedule regular servicing and urgent repairs to minimise downtime and maintain safe operations.
  • Maintain accurate logs of fleet utilisation, fuel usage, and service completion reports.
  • Manage motor vehicle accident reports and liaise with insurers for timely claim resolution.
  • Address any liability issues arising from delays, property damage, or operational incidents.

Driver & Client Management

  • Support recruitment and onboarding of drivers and operational staff when required.
  • Implement and monitor KPIs for drivers, including fuel efficiency, route adherence, and customer satisfaction.
  • Handle customer enquiries and service issues professionally.
  • Maintain clear communication with commercial clients regarding service schedules, feedback, and contract terms.
  • Provide emergency driving support when required (Class 4 licence essential).

Role Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A clean full Class 5 licence (overseas equivalent acceptable).
  • Either:
    • Two years of relevant work experience, or
    • A tertiary qualification at Level 5 or above (overseas equivalent acceptable).
  • Strong commitment to health and safety for yourself and your team.
  • Availability to work weekends or evenings when required.
  • Good analytical and record‑keeping skills to maintain accurate operational data.
  • A proactive, reliable, and solutions‑focused approach to daily fleet operations.
