Kynd Supermart Limited T/A Freshchoice Cromwell is seeking a skilled and reliable Butcher to join our team in Cromwell, Otago.

This role is responsible for preparing, cutting, trimming, boning, slicing, and packaging meat products to a high standard while ensuring food safety compliance and excellent customer service. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining product quality, attractive displays, and efficient stock control within the butchery department.

Key Responsibilities

1. Meat Preparation & Processing

  • Cut, trim, bone, roll, and portion meat according to specifications.

  • Prepare standard and specialised meat cuts for retail sale.

  • Mince, tenderise, marinate, and prepare value-added meat products.

  • Operate and maintain butchery equipment such as band saws, mincers, slicers, and grinders.

2. Product Display & Stock Control

  • Prepare and arrange meat displays in refrigerated cabinets to ensure attractive presentation and product freshness.

  • Monitor stock levels and rotate stock to minimise waste and ensure quality.

  • Check deliveries for quality and quantity against invoices and report discrepancies.

  • Maintain accurate stock records and assist with ordering supplies as required.

3. Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure strict compliance with food safety standards and hygiene regulations.

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, tools, and equipment.

  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.

4. Customer Service

  • Provide professional advice to customers on meat selection, preparation, and cooking methods.

  • Take and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently.

  • Deliver excellent customer service to support repeat business.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must:

  • Hold a relevant Level 4 qualification in Butchery OR

  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience as a butcher.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of meat cuts and preparation techniques.

  • Be physically fit and capable of handling manual tasks.

  • Have strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Understand food safety and health & safety compliance requirements.

Location: Cromwell, Otago
Wage Rate: $26 – $30 per hour
Hours: Full-time position with a minimum of 30 hours per week
