Eagle Recruitment NZ is seeking reliable and hardworking Wood Machinists / Machine Operators to join our client’s timber processing operations.
This role is responsible for timber processing, machine operation, quality control, and ensuring production targets are achieved while maintaining strict health and safety standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, physical capability, and commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
About the Role
The Wood Machinist / Machine Operator will work within the Processing Department. The role focuses on timber machining, packet building, stacking, documentation, and maintaining quality standards in line with company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Build Timber Packets
• Cutting, planning, turning, shaping, and sanding timber to specifications.
• Pulling timber onto trollies for processing.
• Ensuring all work is completed within specified timeframes and according to standard operating procedures.
• Reporting production or quality issues promptly and assisting in implementing solutions.
• Contributing to company quality and production targets.
2. Stack Packets
• Stacking timber packets onto trollies.
• Ensuring correct fillet placement and timber grading.
• Strapping packets where required.
• Creating tally layers accurately.
• Communicating with forklift operators to remove completed packets.
3. Documentation
• Accurately completing tally sheets, packet labels, outfeed sheets, and downtime records.
• Entering data into relevant computer systems where required.
4. Quality & Housekeeping
• Conducting moisture readings during packet builds.
• Maintaining clean and tidy work areas.
• Ensuring all woodworking machines, tools, and equipment are stored properly after use.
5. Health & Safety
• Supporting and adhering to all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• Reporting incidents, accidents, and hazards.
• Following isolation and lockout procedures.
• Wearing appropriate PPE at all times.
• Working safely to prevent injury to self and others.
6. Team Responsibilities
• Communicating effectively with team members and supervisors.
• Maintaining positive working relationships.
• Contributing to a productive and high-performing team culture.
• Demonstrating willingness to learn and develop new skills.
7. Miscellaneous
• Completing additional duties as assigned by Management.
Skills and Experience
• Experience in timber processing, wood machining, or machine operation preferred.
• Experience performing manual and physically demanding tasks.
• Sound written and numeracy skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to work efficiently within a production environment.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety standards.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience or Level 4 qualification.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting and handling timber products.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be a NZ Citizen, NZ Resident, or legally eligible to work in New Zealand.

Employment Details
This is a full-time, permanent role.
• Hourly pay rate: Starting from NZ$27 – NZ$35 per hour.
• Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.
• Additional hours may be required during peak production periods.
• Standard working hours are typically Monday to Friday (shift times may vary depending on site requirements) and weekend work might vary.
