Dairy Herd Manager

About the Role

Aztec Agri Limited in Southland is seeking a reliable Dairy Herd Manager to oversee daily herd operations and support the efficient running of the dairy.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out milk harvesting tasks safely and efficiently
• Maintain dairy hygiene standards and assist in resolving milk quality issues
• Record herd health treatments and maintain accurate farm records
• Monitor cows for health issues and assist with treatments in line with farm policy
• Assist with calving management and observe cows preparing to calve
• Implement pasture allocation and assist with feed management
• Set up and maintain break fences and feed out supplements as required
• Operate and carry out basic maintenance on farm vehicles and machinery
• Assist with irrigation system operation and basic maintenance
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and animal welfare requirements

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience as a dairy farm assistant, sharemilker, dairy herd manager or other relevant dairy farming experience
• Practical experience in milking, herd health and pasture-based farming systems
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Good record-keeping and communication skills
• Commitment to health and safety and animal welfare standards
• A pre-employment alcohol and drug test will be conducted
• Random drug and alcohol testing will be carried out during employment
• A full driver’s licence is required due to the operational needs of the farm.
