We are seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our mining and quarry operations team based in Hokitika on the West Coast. The successful applicant will operate heavy machinery to carry out excavation and earthmoving tasks safely and efficiently in a mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and other earthmoving machinery in mining operations
  • Carry out excavation, trenching, and material loading tasks
  • Remove overburden and assist with extraction of mineral or aggregate materials
  • Load trucks and move materials within the mining site
  • Conduct daily machinery safety inspections and perform basic maintenance
  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and site regulations
  • Work closely with supervisors and team members to meet production targets
  • Assist with general site duties when required

Job Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience operating excavators or similar heavy machinery
  • Experience in mining, quarry, civil construction, or earthmoving operations
  • Ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices
  • Physically fit and able to work in outdoor environments
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Relevant driver licence and machinery operating certificates preferred
