We are seeking Drainlayer to install, maintain, and repair underground drainage systems across residential and commercial construction sites. This role involves working with wastewater, stormwater, and subsoil drainage systems in accordance with the New Zealand Building Code and local Council regulations.

  • Permanent Position, Full-time (minimum 30 hours per week, Monday to Sunday on a rotating roster)

Key tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • Excavate the working area and the required trenches using earthmoving excavators and other tools, and set out drainage lines to ensure the correct fall. 
  • Install stormwater and wastewater systems, underground drainage systems, and water supply piping systems.
  • Backfill trenches to the required levels and gradients using earthmoving excavators and other tools.
  • Read blueprints and drawings to understand or plan the layout of drainage, wastewater and water supply systems.
  • Set out drainage lines to ensure correct fall.
  • Cut, assemble and install pipes, valves, fittings, and fixtures for stormwater or sewage systems.
  • Connect drainage systems to council mains or septic systems under supervision.
  • Utilize hand tools in fitting of vales, couplings and components for tanks, pumps or other drainage systems.
  • Perform system testing.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace existing drainage infrastructure as required.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy work environment and follow all heath and safety regulations.
  • Ensure all work complies with the New Zealand Building Code and relevant health and safety standards.
  • Work effectively with supervisors and other team members on construction sites. 

 

Requirements:

 

  • At least 2 years of work experience in the construction industry or a similar field, OR
  • A relevant NZQF level 4 qualification or above, or an equivalent overseas qualification.
  • Registration is not required, candidates with an Exemption license are welcome to apply, and supervision will be provided if required.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual work.
  • Full-time availability, may work on the weekends
  • Must have no criminal convictions.
  • Candidates need to be NZ citizens or residents.
