Job Summary

As the Store Manager for our Kaimanawa Store, you will serve as the primary leader of our dairy and superette operations. You will take the lead in customer engagement, ensuring an outstanding retail experience while driving sales performance and maximising store profitability. This role requires a professional capable of managing diverse responsibilities, including inventory control, staff supervision, and specialised tasks such as handling hot food and managing liquor license requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • At least 02 years of relevant work experience OR at least a level 5 relevant qualification.
  • A valid Liquor licence or ability to obtain one
  • Minimum 30 hours guaranteed per week

Key tasks and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Plan and coordinate the overall operations of the store, ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning.
  • Must oversee the handling of hot food and liquor sales of the storeis required
  • Cash handling and operating the cash register
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and handle customer inquiries, feedback, or complaints professionally.
  • Monitor and manage budgets, ensuring financial goals are achieved, and prepare financial reports as needed.
  • Ensuring that staff conduct themselves according to the company standards and policy
  • Always maintaining a clean and hygienic work environment at all times
  • Communicate with customers to receive feedback and manage complaints.
  • Implementation of store initiatives.
  • Manage stock levels, including ordering, receiving, and inventory control, to minimise wastage and maintain availability.
  • Supervise, train, and motivate staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Creating staff rosters and making sure that the store has the required number of staff for the smooth and efficient running of the store at all times.
  • Perform administrative duties as required by the owner
  • Develop and implement sales strategies to meet store revenue and profitability targets.
  • Manage the store’s product mix, ensuring a variety that aligns with customer needs.
  • Demand and maximise sales opportunities.
  • Manage Opening and closing of the store on time as required
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements within the retail environment.
  • Check the age and identification of all customers purchasing alcohol to ensure legal compliance.
  • Refuse service to any customers who appears intoxicated or is attempting to bypass legal restrictions.
  • Ensure alcohol is sold only during the allowed hours as specified by Palmerston North Council licensing requirements.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Proven experience or sound knowledge in retail management or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of stock control, purchasing processes, and pricing strategies.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle complaints and offer effective solutions.
  • Ability to analyse financial data, manage budgets, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
