Store Manager – Oaks Village Food Mart, Halswell (Christchurch)

Full-time | 30+ hours per week | Pay rate: $30–$35 per hour

Oaks Village Food Mart, a well-established convenience store in Halswell, Christchurch, is seeking an experienced and motivated Store Manager to oversee the daily operations of our retail store.

About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position, requiring a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Our store operates Monday to Sunday, from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organise, and control the daily operations of the retail store to ensure effective sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement purchasing, marketing, and pricing strategies to maximise sales and maintain competitive advantage.
  • Analyse sales figures, monitor trends, and forecast future sales volumes to support business growth.
  • Manage stock control processes, including ordering, receiving, and maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  • Supervise and coordinate staff activities, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and scheduling.
  • Oversee financial operations such as daily banking, budgeting, cash handling, and monitoring expenses to ensure financial efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, health, safety, and quality standards within the store environment.
  • Promote the business locally through community engagement, advertisements, and special promotions.
  • Respond to customer feedback and resolve complaints promptly to maintain service excellence.
  • Maintain high standards of merchandising, display presentation, and store cleanliness.
  • Conduct regular market research to identify trends, assess competitor activities, and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Initiate operational improvements, such as revising opening hours or introducing new sales techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and sales representatives regarding orders and pricing updates.
  • Manage the store’s administrative functions, paperwork, and record keeping.
  • Ensure the store is fully stocked, secure, and ready for daily operations.
  • Maintain team harmony and a positive work environment by supporting and motivating staff.Skills and Qualifications

To be eligible, the candidate must have:

  • Either: an NZ Register Level 4 qualification (or equivalent or higher), OR
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a similar retail or management role.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead by example.

Pay and Conditions

  • Pay range: $30 – $35 per hour (depending on experience and skills).
