Our Seafood team in Tāmaki Makaurau is seeking a skilled Fish Cutter/Filleter to join our busy morning shift.
After an incredible 14‑year run, Mike is finally hanging up his boots in his mid‑70s. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Mike for his wonderful tenure, dedication, and craftsmanship — he leaves behind big shoes to fill and a legacy we’re proud of.
This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with strong knife skills, seafood experience, and a commitment to producing high‑quality cuts every day.
Position Snapshot
- Immediate start
- Permanent, full‑time role
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 4:00am – 12:30pm
- Occasional Saturdays
- Location: Ihumātao Road, Māngere
About the role | Mō te tūranga mahi
As a Fish Cutter, you will prepare a variety of seafood products by cutting, filleting, cubing, shelling, and packing to required standards. You will also support stock handling and general tasks within the Seafood Room.
This role requires standing for long periods, working in a chilled environment, and performing repetitive manual tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and wash seafood products following food safety guidelines
- Fillet fish and remove fins
- Slice, cube, and pack products to specification
- Remove slime and prepare fish correctly for packaging
- Dress, wrap, and label seafood products
- Inspect products for defects, bruising, or blemishes
- Process seafood into sale‑ready cuts
- Store packed items in chillers or freezers
- Maintain clean and sanitised work areas
- Dispose of waste (scales, skins, offcuts) correctly
- Clean and maintain knives and tools daily
- Perform heavy lifting (up to 20 kg)
- Monitor product quality before packaging
- Maintain strong housekeeping standards
- Follow food safety, health, and safety guidelines at all times
About You | Mōu
You bring 3-5 years of seafood industry experience, strong knife skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
You will ideally have:
- A trade qualification (preferred, not essential)
- Excellent knife‑handling skills
- Experience working in chiller or food‑processing environments
- Strong seafood knowledge and product handling experience
- Physical fitness for heavy lifting
- Reliable transport and comfort with early morning starts
- Clear communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and a flexible, positive attitude
- Intermediate literacy and numeracy skills
- Good understanding of health & safety practices
