Job Purpose
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records and supporting the company’s daily accounting and financial operations. The role ensures timely financial reporting, compliance with New Zealand tax requirements, and efficient management of accounts functions.
Key Responsibilities
Ø Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts using accounting software.
Ø Monitor daily cash flow and coordinate bank deposits and reconciliations.
Ø Assist in preparing monthly profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
Ø Reconcile accounts payable and receivable and match purchase orders with supplier invoices.
Ø Verify and record financial transactions and investigate irregularities.
Ø Prepare and file GST returns and assist with PAYE and other statutory tax filings.
Ø Generate weekly and monthly sales, expense, and inventory reports.
Ø Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts.
Ø Liaise with operations and store managers regarding inventory purchases and invoice matching.
Ø Maintain staff timesheets, leave records, and payroll summaries.
Ø Ensure compliance with New Zealand financial regulations and company policies.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
NZQCF Level 4 or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field,
OR
At least 2 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a retail or wholesale environment.
Required Skills
Proficiency in Xero or MYOB accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Strong knowledge of New Zealand tax requirements (GST and PAYE).
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Strong communication skills.
High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling financial data.
