Veera Enterprises is seeking two experienced Canopy Maintenance Technicians to join our kiwifruit contracting team in the Bay of Plenty. The role involves maintaining orchard canopy structure through pruning, thinning, branch training, trellis maintenance, and monitoring tree health, while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

Veera Enterprises Limited  is looking for two motivated and experienced Canopy Maintenance Technicians to join our kiwifruit contracting team in the Bay of Plenty. This role involves maintaining orchard canopy structure, monitoring tree health, and ensuring all operations comply with health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform seasonal pruning, thinning, shoot selection, and branch training to maintain optimal canopy structure.

  • Use basic carpentry tools for fixing posts and maintaining trellis systems.

  • Train branches, tie leaders, and maintain trellis and canopy support infrastructure.

  • Monitor tree health and identify canopy issues such as shading, pests, disease, or structural weaknesses.

  • Carry out hand-thinning, bud removal, leaf plucking, and fruit exposure tasks.

  • Assist with pest and disease monitoring and basic irrigation checks.

  • Install and maintain trellis wires, posts, netting, and other canopy infrastructure.

  • Operate orchard tools and equipment safely, including ladders, tying tools, and pruning equipment.

  • Assist with planting, young tree training, and general orchard block maintenance.

  • Replace damaged timber or steel posts to maintain structural integrity.

  • Install additional canopy wires to improve stability and support or repair broken/sagging wires.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in canopy maintenance or orchard work preferred.

  • Knowledge of safe work practices in orchards.

  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.

  • Physically fit and able to work at heights using ladders.

  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
