The company requires Horticulture Leading Hands to assist supervisors and lead small teams across multiple blocks. Also seeks Horticulture Leading Hands to lead small orchard teams and support seasonal kiwifruit tasks across seven orchard sites in the Bay of Plenty. 

Position Title: Horticulture Leading Hand
Number of Positions: 2
Location: Bay of Plenty
Pay Rate: $32 – $36 per hour
Hours of Work: 30 – 40 hours per week

 

Key Requirements

  • 2 years of experience or Level 4 Qualification.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead small orchard teams across multiple orchard sites.
  • Carry out pruning, thinning, bud rubbing, tying‑down, and canopy management.
  • Allocate daily tasks and monitor work quality and productivity.
  • Train new workers in correct kiwifruit techniques and safe work practices.
  • Operate orchard tools and equipment safely (secateurs, loppers, pole saws, ATVs if trained).
  • Assist supervisors with planning and coordinating seasonal orchard activities.
  • Report vine health issues, pest/disease concerns, or safety issues promptly.
  • Maintain orchard hygiene, safe practice standards, and biosecurity across all sites.
  • Support irrigation checks, orchard repairs, and general maintenance.
  • Maintain basic work records, team hours, and daily activity logs.

Hours of Work: 30 – 40 hours per week

 

Key Requirements

  • 2 years of experience or Level 4 Qualification.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily orchard operations across seven kiwifruit sites.
  • Monitor vine health, irrigation, pest/disease pressures, and crop load.
  • Plan and deliver seasonal orchard activities: pruning, thinning, canopy work, vine training.
  • Allocate tasks and supervise orchard workers and seasonal crews.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure fruit meets production standards.
  • Train staff in kiwifruit horticultural techniques and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with orchard health & safety requirements across all sites.
  • Oversee safe use of orchard machinery, ATVs, and tools.
  • Maintain orchard documentation, daily task records, and productivity reports.
  • Liaise with management regarding progress, staffing, weather impacts, and resource needs.
