Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cook to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, maintaining high food quality standards, and ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and safely in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

·       Inspect ingredients and food items to ensure freshness and quality before preparation.

·       Prepare, season, and cook a range of dishes following the restaurant’s recipes and cooking standards.

·       Operate and monitor kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, and smokers, ensuring correct cooking temperatures are maintained.

·       Portion meals appropriately, arrange food on plates, and add sauces, gravies, and garnishes for presentation.

·       Store food items safely in refrigerators and other temperature-controlled storage areas.

·       Prepare dishes to meet special dietary needs when required.

·       Assist with estimating food quantities and supporting menu preparation when needed.

·       Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and workstations at all times.

·       Support and guide junior kitchen staff or new team members when required.

·       Ensure all food is handled, stored, and prepared in accordance with food safety regulations.

·       Monitor stock levels and maintain inventory of food supplies and kitchen equipment.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following:

·       A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification; or

·       At least two years of relevant work experience.

Other Skills Required

·       Strong teamwork and communication abilities.

·       Knowledge of food hygiene standards, stock rotation, and food storage methods.

·       Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
