The Japanese Language & Culture Facilitator will support the delivery of community-based Japanese language and cultural programmes, helping participants build basic language skills while fostering cultural awareness, confidence, and community engagement.
This role contributes to the Foundation’s mission by delivering accessible, inclusive, and culturally enriching learning experiences for the wider community.
About this role
Hourly rate: $30–$35 per hour before tax
Type: permanent role
Minimum guaranteed hours: Minimum 30 hours per week
Location: Auckland region. You may be expected to travel to different locations in Auckland for performing this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver group-based Japanese language sessions in community settings such as community centres, schools, and partner venues
• Support the design and delivery of cultural workshops and activities, including traditions, customs, seasonal events, and contemporary culture
• Adapt learning materials to suit different ages, backgrounds, and learning levels
• Encourage participation, confidence, and social interaction among learners
• Support inclusive learning environments for participants from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
• Work collaboratively with the Foundation team to deliver community programmes and events
• Assist with community outreach activities where required
Skill/Qualification Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
A tertiary qualification at diploma level or above in Japanese literature, or at least three years’ relevant experience teaching the Japanese language.
Experience in delivering engaging and effective Japanese language programmes to students preferred but not essential
The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders
Excellent time management and organisational skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
A collaborative and professional attitude, with the ability to work well as part of a team
Native-level or highly proficient Japanese language skills are strongly preferred
English language skills sufficient to explain lessons clearly and communicate effectively with students and stakeholders
Access to a vehicle is beneficial, as travel may be required across Auckland
All candidates must be currently in New Zealand and legally entitled to work in New Zealand
Experience in supporting learners from diverse cultural backgrounds will be advantageous to your application.
