Hours: 40 hours, Must be available to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday)

AAA Auto Repair Ltd trading as Northland Parts Warehouse is  an automotive repair and parts business based in Whangārei. The company provides vehicle servicing, mechanical repairs, hydraulic and suspension repairs, and dismantling of vehicles for parts recycling and resale.

We are looking for a skilled Motor Mechanic with suspension and hydraulic system knowledge or experience to join our workshop team.

About the Role

The Motor Mechanic will diagnose, repair, and maintain petrol and diesel vehicles, including mechanical components such as engines, transmissions, suspension systems, steering systems, brakes, and hydraulic systems.

The role also includes dismantling vehicles and recovering usable parts for recycling and resale.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Inspecting vehicles to detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines and components.

  • Dismantling engines, transmissions, steering mechanisms and hydraulic systems to identify defects

  • Repairing or replacing worn and defective mechanical parts and components

  • Reassembling engines and mechanical systems after repair

  • Testing and adjusting repaired systems to ensure proper performance

  • Performing scheduled servicing and maintenance including oil changes, lubrication and tune-ups

  • Diagnosing mechanical faults using diagnostic equipment and computer testing tools

  • Repairing suspension systems including shock absorbers, steering assemblies and related components

  • Inspecting and maintaining hydraulic systems including pumps, valves and hydraulic lines

  • Dismantling accident-damaged vehicles and extracting reusable mechanical parts

  • Maintaining service records and documentation for repairs and maintenance

  • Following workplace health and safety procedures and workshop standards

  • Responding to vehicle breakdown issues and assisting with repair solutions when required

Skills and Experience

  • A relevant qualification or a minimum of 2–3 years’ relevant experience as a mechanic or automotive technician  

  • Knowledge of vehicle engines, transmissions, suspension systems and brakes

  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems including pumps, cylinders and valves

  • Ability to diagnose mechanical faults using diagnostic equipment

  • Experience repairing and maintaining automotive mechanical systems

  • Ability to read and follow service manuals and technical diagrams

  • Strong problem solving and mechanical troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Good communication and workshop coordination skills

  • Commitment to workplace health and safety

  • Punctual, reliable, and willing to work weekends

  • Physically fit and safety-conscious
