Essential Responsibilities:
 
1. Effectively and safely operates excavators, utilizing machine-specific controls and machine attachments to complete all necessary tasks related to pipeline construction.This includes operating on adverse terrain, in winter operations, and/or near other equipment and power lines.
2. Operates in crowded, fast-paced working environments, and exercises extreme caution with awareness of potential situational hazards to ensure site safety.
3. Interprets verbal and non-verbal communication (including hand signals) from operators, ground personnel and swampers, and acts accordingly.
4. Performs mechanical inspections and servicing including controls and operations, completing logbooks, performing maintenance and adjustments, ensuring good housekeeping, and performing machine lubrication.
5. Performs effective operation of equipment by recognizing unusual machine movements and sounds.
6. Recognizes existing and potential hazards and knows how to identify these through conducting a field-level pre-job hazard analysis, checking the machine for hazards and assessing any tasks before starting.
 
Requirement for the role:
 
1. A minimum of 3 years’ proven experience as a Digger Operator
2. Willingness to learn, on-the-job training provided where needed
3. Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
4. A positive team player who contributes to a smooth and respectful work environment
5. Able to follow all company policies, including those around hygiene, time management, and flexibility
6. Experience with other heavy equipment on a mainline will be advantageous
7. Preference will be given to NZ citizens or residents
