We require Panel Beaters to join the team.

  • This is a permanent role
  • Full time, with minimum guaranteed 30 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday with weekend jobs available
  • Competitive remuneration $35.00-$50.00 per hour depending on experience

About the Role

You will be based in our Manawatu Workshop.

What you will do

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Inspect damaged vehicles to assess the extent of the damage to body panels.
  • Use diagnostic tools and visual inspection to identify structural and cosmetic issues.
  • Employ various techniques, such as welding, pulling, and hammering, to reshape and repair damaged vehicle panels.
  • Replace or repair damaged parts, including panels, fenders, and frames.
  • Ensure that repaired panels meet safety and quality standards.
  • Strip and prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, grinding, and applying fillers as needed.
  • Mask and cover areas that do not require painting to protect them during the painting process.
  • Mix and match paint colours to ensure a seamless finish that matches the vehicle's original colour.
  • Apply primer, basecoat, and clearcoat to achieve a smooth and durable finish.
  • Use paint booths and other equipment to ensure a controlled and dust-free environment.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to ensure the quality of repairs and paintwork.
  • Address any imperfections or issues to meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including repair methods, materials used, and labour hours.
  • Provide detailed documentation for insurance claims or client records as required.
  • Work closely with other automotive professionals, including mechanics, to coordinate repairs and ensure overall vehicle functionality.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to explain repair processes, timelines, and costs.

The successful applicant will

  • Minimum 3-year relevant and verifiable experience in the same role
  • Relevant certification in automotive body repair and painting is desired but not compulsory
  • A clean full driver’s licence is advantageous
  • Must have a good level of spoken and written English
  • Have good customer relation skills, remaining calm and controlled even when the pressure is on
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Essential Knowledge of Health and Safety and the hazards of operating on construction sites
  • Be fit and healthy and must pass a drug test
  • Have a positive can-do attitude
  • Willing to undergo pre-employment drug screening
  • Able to complete basic paperwork when needed
  • Able to problem solve and manage time well
  • You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand
