Health & Safety Manager, And Irrigation Technician

Key Requirements:

• At least 2 years of experience. or At least Level 4 of qualification.
  
  

Key Responsibilities:

• System Development & Implementation: Design, maintain, and implement comprehensive health & safety manuals, policies, procedures, and hazard registers tailored to horticulture and kiwifruit operations, including PSA‑V management and orchard spray programmes.
• Risk Mitigation & Audits: Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and workplace inspections across orchards and related facilities. Ensure compliance with industry standards such as GlobalG.A.P., WSMP, and client safety requirements.
• Contractor & Visitor Management: Manage contractor pre‑qualification, inductions, and ongoing compliance to ensure all subcontractors, labour hire workers, and visitors meet company safety standards.
• Incident Investigation & Reporting: Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near‑misses using recognised investigation frameworks. Identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and report findings to senior management.
• Training & Safety Culture: Coordinate health and safety training, toolbox talks, and inductions. Support and lead Health & Safety Representative engagement and promote a proactive safety culture across all sites.
• Chemical & Equipment Safety: Oversee safe storage, handling, and use of agrichemicals (including hydrogen cyanamide), plant and machinery, vehicles, and PPE. Ensure training, signage, and controls are in place.
• Continuous Improvement: Monitor safety performance, analyse trends, and implement improvement initiatives to reduce risk and enhance orchard safety outcomes.

• Monitor water flow, pressure, and scheduling to meet crop requirements.
• Inspect systems and identify leaks, blockages, or faults.
• Conduct repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Adjust irrigation schedules based on weather and crop needs.
• Maintain irrigation records and system reports.
• Ensure efficient water use and minimise wastage.
• Follow health and safety procedures during all irrigation work.
• Support orchard teams with irrigation‑related tasks.
• Liaise with management on system upgrades and improvements.
