We are currently seeking reliable and full-time welders to join our team. Starting pay offered from 30-35 hourly will be fixed according to the experience for 30-40 hours a week, however, this will be reviewed periodically. Any overtime will be paid as per the above pay rate.
As a welder you will be responsible for welding, light fabrication and installation of structural steel,
architectural steel and other metalworks. From time to time there will be other works involved such as drilling in concrete, drypacking, wood work, rigging work, etc. These will also be part of your job description. Some of most common duties are as below:
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures. Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements. Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded. Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces. Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, flat, horizontal or overhead). Weld using GTAW, MMAW and GMAW process.
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps. Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws. Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety. Setting, aligning, and leveling heavy equipment machinery.
- Selecting the appropriate rigging gear. Preparing rigging equipment including beams, pulleys, clamps, and bolts. Inspecting rigging before final use. Monitoring and maintaining rigging equipment. Maneuvering loads using heavy equipment machinery and by hand.
- Breaking down rigging equipment and conducting post-rigging inspections. Drilling in concrete to install chemset studs. Breaking concrete. Woodwork for templating or other frames related to metal work.
- Ensuring compliance with state and company safety procedures. Communicating with the rigging and construction team.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in welding role. Alternatively, a recognized qualification.
- Must be available to work early mornings and weekends (based on work arrangement).
- Physical stamina and the ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines.
- Pre-employed drug test and police check is required.
