Car wreckers limited is Looking for two highly skilled and experienced Automotive Technicianto join our car wrecking and salvage operation. This is a complex hands-on technical role thatcombines automotive dismantling, panel beating, welding, vehicle painting, and mechanicalpart testing. The successful candidates must be multi-skilled, safety-conscious, and capable ofworking independently to high industry standards.
- Position: Automotive Technician
- Pay : $30 to $35 hourly rate depending on experience
- Location : Auckland
- Minimum Hours : 30 per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely dismantle a wide range of vehicles (cars, vans, SUVs, etc.) for parts and scrap.
- Label, test, and store parts systematically for inventory and resale.
- Disconnect and drain fuel, oil, coolant, and other fluids per environmental regulations.
- Assess and report on part quality and damage for resale purposes.
- Use hoists, cranes, and hand tools to strip down vehicles efficiently and safely.
- Repair, straighten or replace damaged panels and body parts.
- Perform MIG and TIG welding to repair or reconstruct vehicle components.
- Cut and reshape panels using grinders, air tools, and plasma cutters.
- Undertake rust treatment and structural reinforcements.
- Sand, fill, mask, and prime panels and car bodies prior to painting.
- Apply primer, undercoat, and clear finishes using spray equipment.
- Polish, buff, and finish painted surfaces to high-quality standards.
- Assist with mechanical removal tasks (e.g. radiators, alternators, driveshafts).
- Identify reusable mechanical parts and perform basic testing where needed.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop cleanliness to high safety standards.
- Adhere to safe work practices, PPE use, and hazard reporting procedures.
- Ensure hazardous materials are stored and disposed of correctly.
- Help catalogue and store salvaged parts in a database or tagging system.
- Liaise with sales staff regarding parts availability and condition.
- Assist with customer parts pick-ups and loading.
- Work collaboratively with dismantling, warehouse, and customer service staff.
- Provide technical advice on part usability and vehicle damage.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and report on daily activities.

Key Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience or level 4 qualifications.
- Ability to work unsupervised and deliver consistent quality workmanship.
- Honest, reliable, and safety-conscious with a strong work ethic.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy items and working in a busy yard.
- Ability to read job sheets and follow safety/environmental regulations.
- Willingness to work overtime and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible for working between minimum 30 to maximum 70 hours weekly.
- Class 1 license
