Monsoon Poon Limited based in Wellington, has been spicing up the lives of Wellingtonians and visitors alike with favourite dishes from Thailand, Malaysia, India, China and Indonesia. We are looking for an experienced chef to join our awesome kitchen team.
You will be expected to work in our Monsoon Poon Kitchen in Wellington, a minimum of 40 hours per week with shifts variable between Monday to Sunday from 10am to 11apm. Please note this is a permanent full-time role and the hourly pay rate would be $31-$34 based on the candidates' experience and skills.
Job Description for This Position

Plan and develop menus in collaboration with management, incorporating Southeast Asian flavours and seasonal ingredients

Estimate food and labour costs and assist in managing kitchen budgets

Order food supplies and maintain appropriate stock levels

Prepare and cook a wide range of dishes, including wok-based and Southeast Asian cuisine, ensuring consistency and quality

Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation

Coordinate with managers, kitchen staff, and front-of-house team to ensure smooth service operations

Discuss food preparation and service issues with management and team members and provide solutions

Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance to junior kitchen staff

Ensure compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations

Supervise, support, and assist in training kitchen staff where required

Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment

Assist with food preservation, storage, and waste minimisation practices
Key Requirements for Successful Applicants

At least two years’ relevant experience is required

Relevant qualification or certificate is an advantage.

Punctual and reliable with a positive can-do attitude will be key in this role

A positive and willing attitude to learn and progress.

Able to work with deadlines and schedules, and available to work weekends if required.
